I had the opportunity to meet with Tom Giardini recently, to learn about the history of Connecticut’s construction industry and the origins of the Construction Institute. The man I experienced was clearly driven by two things:
- Making real meaningful connections with people
- Making sure he was always providing value to someone
He longed for the simpler days of picking up the phone or visiting with the clients he worked for, and the partners he worked with, just to see how they were. Even as we wrapped up our hour together, he was asking me if what he had to say was of value and helped me.
Now reflecting on our time together, it didn’t just help me, it changed me. It reminded me to stop and check in with those around me, see how they’re doing, and see if there is anything I can do to help them out.
