Jason Simms: Play/Write Your Life

All the world’s a stage. The roles are set, yet must be written. Our world is certain, but what precedes it and creates it is malleable. To engage with it, we must practice curiosity.

In this Sip Session, we will embrace our roles as players but not submit to them. We will craft the script, though we will not control the production. We will relinquish binary thought in favor of the power of ambiguity. In doing so, we will put space between the character we have played and the character we wish to play. We will step onto the stage of the future in a completely new — and surprisingly more authentic — way.

About Jason Simms

Jason dragged his wife against her will from Portland, Oregon, back to her home state of Connecticut in 2012. He just thought it seemed like a great place to start a business and raise a family, and so far it seems like he was right. They live with their 6-month-old twins (one of each) and 4-year-old daughter in the woods of Deep River.

Ostensibly, Jason runs a PR firm with the very creative name of Simms PR. Really what he does is create partnerships between journalists and organizations on behalf of great stories. He helps companies and leaders in a variety of industries shape the conversations that matter to them most in regional, national and international media. He writes about this craft for Entrepreneur and other outlets, but not as often as he should.

Before he became a PR man, Jason was a journalist at The Oregonian and other outlets. If Jason was ever on Jeopardy, he would probably talk about a group he founded and led from 2006-2011 called The Metal Shakespeare Company, except his former bandmate beat him to it. From time to time, Jason appears in Irish plays with the New Haven Gaelic Players.

According to preeminent future design guru Brent Robertson, if you want to know the real Jason, you must attend an Iron Maiden concert with him. Kayaking on the Connecticut River is a distant second place. Drinking whiskey in the evening or eating green chile from his native New Mexico for breakfast will do as well.
